1. Title: Fisetin as a treatment for community-acquired pathogen susceptibility during aging, obesity, and neurodegenerative diseases.

Major Goals: The goal is to test the hypothesis that fisetin can suppress vulnerable populations against adverse outcomes upon acute viral infection using pre-clinical models.

Project Number: I01 RX003901
Name of PD/PI: Catherine Kotz
Co-Investigators: Niedernhofer, Mavanji
Source of Support: VA
Primary Place of Performance: Minneapolis VA Health Care System
Project/Proposal Start and End Date: 04/01/2022 – 03/31/2026
Total Award Amount (including Indirect Costs): $299,631/y

2. Title: Orexin agonists as novel obesity therapeutics.

Major Goals: The major goals of this project are to determine whether targeting the orexin system using small molecule agonists improves energy balance by enhancing spontaneous physical activity, associated caloric expenditure and sleep quality.

Project Number: 1 I01 BX005815-01
Name of PD/PI: Catherine Kotz
Co-Investigators: Zhang, Mavanji
Source of Support: VA
Primary Place of Performance: Minneapolis VA Health Care System
Project/Proposal Start and End Date: 07/01/2022 – 06/30/2026
Total Award Amount (including Indirect Costs): $274,559/y

3. Title: Reducing the post weight-loss energy expenditure gap with orexin agonists.

Major Goals: This award is to determine if novel small molecular weight orexin agonists can reduce the post-weight-loss energy gap and safely prevent weight regain in mice and rats.
